Quick Tips

Things every self-employed
professional should know.

💰
Self-Employed
Pay Quarterly Estimated Taxes
If you expect to owe $1,000+ in taxes, the IRS requires quarterly estimated payments. Missing them can result in penalties. Deadlines are April, June, September, and January.
🏠
Deductions
Home Office Deduction
If you use part of your home exclusively and regularly for business, you may qualify for the home office deduction — either by square footage or the simplified $5/sq ft method.
🚗
Deductions
Track Your Business Mileage
Business miles are deductible. Use a mileage tracking app throughout the year. For 2024, the IRS standard mileage rate is 67 cents per mile for business travel.
📁
Record Keeping
Keep Business & Personal Separate
Open a dedicated business bank account and credit card. Mixing personal and business finances creates headaches at tax time and raises audit red flags.
📱
Deductions
Deduct Your Business Phone & Internet
If you use your phone and internet for business, the business-use percentage is deductible. Keep records showing what portion is for work vs. personal use.
🎓
Planning
Retirement Contributions Reduce Taxes

How much do your tax preparation services cost?
Pricing depends on the complexity of your return — the number of income sources, schedules, and forms required. We discuss pricing transparently during your free initial consultation and provide a firm quote before any work begins. There are no surprise fees.
Do I need to come in person or can we work remotely?
We offer both in-person and fully virtual appointments. You can securely submit your documents digitally and we can meet via phone or video call. We serve clients throughout all of Arizona — location is not a barrier.
What documents do I need to bring?
After your consultation, we'll provide a personalized checklist based on your situation. Common documents include: W-2s, 1099s, prior year tax returns, business income and expense records, receipts for deductions, and any IRS correspondence. Don't stress about having everything perfect — we'll walk you through it.
I'm self-employed for the first time. Where do I start?
Start by booking a consultation. First-time self-employed filers often don't realize they need to pay quarterly estimated taxes, track business expenses, and file a Schedule C. We'll explain everything clearly and set you up for success from day one — including making sure you don't overpay.
What if I receive an IRS notice or am being audited?
Don't panic. IRS notices are often routine and many can be resolved simply. Contact us immediately and we'll review the notice, explain what it means, and guide you on how to respond. We provide consultation services for exactly these situations and can help you navigate the process with confidence.
Can you help with both my personal and business taxes?
Absolutely. For many self-employed clients and small business owners, personal and business taxes are closely connected. We handle both and look at your complete financial picture to ensure everything is filed correctly and optimized.
I missed a filing deadline. What should I do?
File as soon as possible. The penalty for filing late is generally worse than the penalty for paying late. We can help you get caught up, file any outstanding returns, and address any penalties that may have accumulated. The sooner you act, the better.
Do you offer year-round service or just during tax season?
Year-round. Tax planning, quarterly estimates, IRS correspondence, business structure questions — we're available throughout the year. Many of our best clients engage us for ongoing planning, not just annual filing.
